Dav Whatmore has been named the new coach of Zimbabwe following the departure of Stephen Mangongo. Whatmore will be the coach going into the ICC World Cup 2015. Whatmore was the coach when Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996. He was until recently was the head coack of the Pakistan team. The 60-year old coach has also worked with India Under-19 between 2006-07. Whatmore was also the coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
Zimbabwe players will practice with Whatmore at his Dubai based academy. With just over a month and a half to go for the ICC World Cup 2015, Zimbabwe will look to make the best use of his experience in such limited time. Whatmore tried to rope in Dave Houghton as their batting coach, but he preferred to stay with English County Middlesex instead of his country.
In the past Whatmore has sprung quite a few surprises. Whether he can help Zimababwe do the same is something one has to wait and see.
