New Zealand players begin their warm-up game today against Mumbai’s Ranji team featuring Rohit Sharma. The Kiwis had a good start to the Day One of the three-day game at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. They take 117 for 2 to Lunch. Martin Guptill failed to capitalise and fell victim to fast bowler Balwinder Sandhu early on, nicking the ball to Mumbai skipper Aditya Tare. Skipper Kane Williamson came in and tried to stabilise the visitor’s innings. Williamson launched a counter-attack on Mumbai bowlers as they looked clueless against him. The 26-year-old started dealing in fours and sixes taking the bowlers on. On the other end, Tom Latham played with caution at first followed by a shift of gears.

Latham-Williamson shared a 85-run stand before Sandhu came back into the attack and found an outside edge off Williamson’s bat. He departed after scoring an half-century. He too got out in a similar fashion as Guptill as the ball landed in safe hands of Tare. Sandhu has taken 2 for 16 in 7 overs so far, he will be a key player to watch out for in this warm-up game. Left-arm spinner Vishal Dhabolkar took a beating from Williamson as he got smashed for two sixes, he leaked 39 runs in 5 overs. He took on Tushar Deshpande too hitting him in the gaps early on in the innings.

Latham is looking comfortable on the crease and will be trying to form a partnership with new man on the crease, Taylor. Latham’s good form will be a positive for the Kiwis as Guptill is going through a rough patch lately.

Brief Scores:

New Zealand 117 for 2( Kane Williamson 50, Tom Latham 47; Balwinder Sandhu 2 for 16) vs Mumbai.
