Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar has backed India skipper Virat Kohli to succeed on England tour saying he’s in the right space of mind and all he needs to do well in the upcoming five-Test series is to just follow what he has been doing of late.

The current tour of England is vital for Kohli on a personal level considering his past record in 2014 when he managed 134 runs in 10 innings. Following that, the 28-year-old went on to score plenty of runs in Australia and South Africa proving his class.

However, his critics continue to point his failure in England but Tendulkar feels despite his past record, Kohli should have a good Test series. “He is in a good space. All he needs to do is try and be in the same space, Tendulkar was quoted as saying by Sky Sports Cricket on Tuesday. “His method of preparing himself before a tour, before a game is really nice. He should continue with that. There are going to be ups and downs, there could be bad tours, but that’s not the end of the world.”

Tendulkar, who holds the record for scoring the most runs in Test cricket, also praised Kohli for his work ethic. “The best part about him is that the moment he realises there are areas he needs to work on he is immediately back in the nets working on those things,” he said. “A player can only move forward if he accepts – and it requires a lot to accept and admit: ‘Okay, these are the areas where I have not done well and I need to go out and change these things’.”

India face England in a five-match series that starts with the first Test at Edgbaston from August 1.
