Sunil Narine opened the innings and swatted 37 off 18 BCCI

On Thursday, when Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) posted 170 runs on the board batting first against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), they knew they had a task in hand, considering the firepower in KKR batting line-up. However, what they were not aware of was a surprise that KKR had in store for them. In absence of hard-hitting opener Chris Lynn, KXIP would have hoped to see regular opener Robin Uthappa walk out in the middle with skipper Gautam Gambhir. But as it happened, spinner Sunil Narine walked out with the captain to surprise one and all. Further, he smashed a quick-fire 18-ball 37 to set up a solid platform for the chase.

Narine, who had earlier delivered a tight spell of 4-0-19-1, smacked 4 fours and 3 towering sixes in his knock to not just set up the win, but also pocket the Man of the Match award. Though KXIP skipper Glenn Maxwell was not particularly surprised to see Narine open the innings, as he had seen the West Indian do so before in the Big Bash League (BBL), his bowlers did struggle to bowl to the left-hander. After the match, Narine revealed the possible secret behind his big-hitting ability.

In a video shared by KKR s official YouTube channel, Narine can be seen talking about his batting, opening with Gambhir and the batting tips he gets from Dwayne Bravo. Watch it here:

We spend a lot of time together and he (Bravo) always gives me tips in batting. Hopefully I can continue to do what I am doing, Narine can be seen saying in the video, which also takes us through the KKR post-match celebration.
