England pacer Jade Dernbach on Friday expressed his desire to play Test cricket for his national team and said that good performances for his County side Surrey will help him get a chance to fulfill his ambition.
“I’ve got ambitions to play Test cricket, that’s obviously my aim. I’ve tested myself at One-Day Internationals (ODI), T20 and now one of my aims is to play Test match cricket,” Dernbach was quoted as saying by sports365.com.
“Currently we have a very, very successful side so it’s going to be hard. Hopefully playing here at the Kia Oval on some difficult wickets while proving to be successful will put me in good stead,” he added.
Dernbach had a successful time in the recently concluded Friends Life T20 competition where he picked up 16 wickets and conceded less than six runs an over. Dernbach, who was dropped from the English squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 for being expensive, is confident of making it to the squad for the ODI series against Australia.
“I some think something has certainly clicked, I feel a lot more confident in my game since I came back to Surrey and worked hard and put some things right,” Dernbach told givemesport.com.
“When you’re playing for England in that arena it’s very unforgiving and you can get shown up very quickly. I’ve been able to come back to Surrey and hone my skills, practice my death bowling variations and learning when to use variations in a game, I’m in a good frame of mind and feeling confident.”
“It’s very disappointing to be left out of any international side, especially when you’ve been in the set up for a period of time, I was really motivated to come back to Surrey and get my game back in order,” Dernbach concluded.
