BCCI and controversies follow a parallel path. Anil Kumble’s resignation has led to BCCI applying for fresh invitations. For a month now, the news of skipper Virat Kohli and Kumble’s spat has been doing rounds and, amidst the same, India played ICC Champions Trophy 2017. BCCI had earlier asked to submit applications and closed it after receiving them from Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh and Virender Sehwag. However, post Kumble’s resignation, the deadline has been extended to July 9. Rajput is livid over the extension of deadline and called it ‘humiliating’. It is humiliating. To have submitted the resume, to have been shortlisted and to be now told that fresh applications will also be accepted is highly unprofessional on the part of the BCCI. It does show that the board never had faith in the other five candidates apart from Kumble and once he stepped down, they need new names to pick from, Rajput was quoted in a Times of India report.

Earlier, Rajput had also expressed his disappointment at the Kohli-Kumble rift but declined to comment on the issue saying, We actually don t know what has happened, so it is wrong on my part to comment on that aspect. Whatever has happened, it has not gone well for Anil Kumble.

He also called Kumble’s stepping down as a “sad day in Indian cricket.” Rajput was the manager of Indian team that won the inaugural ICC World T20 in 2007.
