Michael KIinger with a hard-fought 96 guided Western Australia to a total of 255 for six in their 50 overs in the Matador Cup final versus New South Wales on Sunday.

Western Australia got off to a quick start after 42 in seven overs but then Gurinder Sandhu claimed Marcus Harris. Then Craig Cummins and Klinger put on 83 runs for the second wicket. Cummins’ dismissal for 47 allowed the New South Wales bowlers to slow down the scoring. Voges took some time to get off the mark but in the end accelerated. Klinger went on undeterred.  After Voges got out for 40 the scoring rate picked up and in the end due to some acceleration in the end Western Australia reached 255 for six.

Gurinder Sandhu with two for 38 in ten overs was the pick of the bowlers. He claimed the crucial wickets of Harris and KIinger. Pacers Bollinger and Cummins were expensive as they went for 50 and 48 runs in seven and eight overs respectively. Sean Abbot too claimed a wicket. Western Australia will be hoping Shane Watson can lead the way for them when they bat.
