Imran Tahir is the Man of the Match for his crucial nine runs off nine deliveries and then four wickets for 21 runs. Netherlands captain Peter Borren is very disappointed not to have won the match. He credits his team for a phenomenal effort. South Africa captain Faf du Plessis is delighted after his side pulled off an unlikely win. Well that is it from us for now. Hendricks comes in. Ahsan Malik gets of the mark with a single towards third-man. Van der Gugten edges one to de Kock and that is it. South Africa win the match by a narrow margin of six runs. South Africa keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the semi-finals of the World T20. Netherlands put up a great fight, but South Africa’s extra bit of quality got them through. One does have to say that some of the shots played by the middle and lower-order batsmen was not necessary.

Tsotsobe to bowl his last over as well. Bukhari gets a quick single towards mid-off. Van der Gugten hits one over mid-on for a single. Tsotsobe bowls one short and Bukhari mistimes his pull to David Miller on the leg side. Van der Gugten then hits one in the air and Steyn cannot hold onto the catch at deep mid-wicket.

Steyn to bowl his last over. Van der Gugten guides one towards third-man for a single. Steyn bowls two dot deliveries. Bukhari then gets three runs with a drive towards long-on. Steyn then bowls two dot deliveries to finish the over. Netherlands need 14 runs off 18 deliveries.

 

 

Tsotsobe to bowl. He bowls one sohrt and Bukhari gets a top-edge while trying to pull. The ball goes over the wicketkeeper and for a four. Bukhari then hits one towards mid-wicket and goes for a single. Van Beek comes back for the second but Bukhari sends him back. Van Beek is run out at the striker’s end. Timm van der Gugten is the next batsman in. Netherlands need 18 runs off 24 deliveries.

Hendricks comes back into the attack. It is a very good over as only two runs come from it. The Netherlands need 26 runs off 30 deliveries.

 

 

Tahir to bowl his last over. He bowls Tom Cooper with a length delivery. Cooper tried to pull it, but missed. Pieter Seelaar is the next batsman in. He top-edges a sweep and Duminy takes the catch at long-on.

Du Plessis brings back Steyn into the attack. He bowls one short and Ben Cooper ducks but the hits the gloves and lobs up. De Kock takes a comfortable catch.

Albie Morkel has been brought into the attack. He bowls one short and wide and Tom Cooper cuts it just wide of the backward-point fielder and gets a four. Tom then cuts a wide delivery towards third-man and gets two runs. Morkel a low full-toss at the stumps and Tom Cooper flicks it away for a for through mid-wicket.

 

 

Tahir comes in. Borren goes down on one knee and slog-sweeps one over deep mid-wicket for a six. He again goes down on one knee and plays the sweep. But he misses and is out LBW. That was clear-cut. Ben Cooper walks out to bat. The 100 comes up for the Netherlands in the over.

Hendricks is back into the attack. The scoring has slowed down now. Only two runs have come from the first five deliveries in the over. Borren then plays a brilliant straight drive and gets a four down the ground.

 

 

 

 

Tahir comes in. He bowls one full and Barresi misses with his shot. The South Africans appeal for LBW and the umpire raises his finger. Replays show that the ball would have missed leg-stump. Poor decision that. Tom Cooper is the next batsman in.

JP Duminy has been brought into the attack. Barresi plays a reverse-sweep and gets a four through third-man. Barresi then hits one over long-off for a six. Myburgh then comes down the track and swings hard. He gets a thick inside-edge and the ball hits the stumps. The bats also came out of his hands. He was not in full control of that shot. But nonetheless a great innings has come to an end.

Imran Tahir comes into the attack. Myburgh drives a wide delivery through cover-point for a single. Myburgh reaches his third T20I half-century. Barresi sweeps one through square-leg for a single.

 

 

Steyn continues. He bowls a slower delivery and Myburgh hits that over wide mid-off for a four. Myburgh pulls one on the leg side. AB de Villiers takes the catch, but throw it back as he is about to touch the boundary line. He comes back and throws the ball. Very good fielding from de Villiers. Swart then pulls a back of a length delivery back over the bowler. Faf du Plessis runs to his right from mid-off and takes a brilliant diving catch. Wesley Barresi is the next batsman in. Myburgh cuts a wide delivery from Steyn over point for another four.

Tsotsobe comes in. He bowls one short and wide and Myburgh cuts it for a four through point. Tsotsobe bowls another short delivery outside off-stump. Myburgh cuts this in front of cover for a four. Myburgh then hits a slower delivery over deep mid-wicket for a six. That brings the 50 for Netherlands. They were bowled out for 39 against Sri Lanka. Now 50-plus for no loss against South Africa.

 

 

 

 

Dale Steyn has been brought into the attack. He bowls one very short and it goes over Quinton de Kock for four wides.

 

 

Lonwabo Tsotsobe comes into the attack. He bowls a short delivery and Myburgh upper-cuts it over backward-point for a four. Tsotsobe then bowls one on the pads and Myburgh flicks it through fine-leg for a four. Myburgh then pulls one over deep backward square-leg for a six. He then hits the last ball for a four in the air down the ground.

 

 

Beuran Hendricks will bowl from the other end. His first delivery is on the pads and Swart flicks it away for a four towards fine-leg. Swart then pulls one just over the short mid-wicket fielder for a single.

 

 

Stephan Myburgh and Michael Swart will open the batting for the Netherlands. Albie Morkel will begin proceedings for South Africa. Myburgh gets of the mark with a single towards deep square-leg on the first ball. Swart also gets of the mark with a single towards mid-off. Myburgh hits one over cover for a four.

 

 

South Africa need a victory to keep their semi-final hopes alive. Their target is 146 runs. But remember, this Netherlands side is the same that was bowled out for 39 against Sri Lanka.

 

 

 

 

 

Van der Gugten to bowl the last over of the innings. He bowls one on the stumps and Tahir hits it through cover-point for a four. He then gets two runs towards long-on. Tahir slices one over point and gets another two runs. Tsotsobe hits the last ball towards mid-off for a single. South Africa post 145 for nine.

 

 

 

 

Malik to also bowl his final over. Hendricks top-edges a straight delivery high in the air and Peter Borren takes the catch at cover. Imran Tahir comes into bat. It is his birthday. Malik bowls a slower delivery and Miller is beaten and gets bowled. That is Ahsan Malik’s fifth wicket. Great performance. He finishes with figures of five for 19.

Are South Africa ‘Choking’?

 

 

Malik is back into the attack. He prefers bowling from round the wicket despite being a right-handed bowler. Dale Steyn gets of the mark with a single towards long-on. That is in-between two singles from Miller. Malik bowls one full outside off-stump and Steyn manages to get it through between point and short third-man for a four. Steyn gives himself room on the off side and swings his bat. He is deceived by Malik’s slower delivery and gets a fine edge. Barresi takes the catch and South Africa have lost their seventh wicket.

Van der Gugten comes back into the attack. He bowls one short and Miller pulls it away through long-leg for a single. Van der Gugten bowls one down the leg side and Duminy gets a faint edge on it. Barresi takes the catch and Duminy has to depart for 12.

Bukhari to bowl. Duminy and Miller get singles each off the first two deliveries in the over. Duminy then flicks one through long-on for another single. Miller then pushes one through mid-wicket and gets two runs. Miller inside-edges a pull to short fine-leg for a single.

 

 

Tom Cooper continues. Duminy and David Miller exchange A few singles and a two in the over. This is probably South Africa’s last recognised batting pair.

 

 

Malik comes back into the attack. Morkel cuts a wide delivery through cover for a single. Malik bowls a low full-toss and Duminy flicks it away for a single towards mid-wicket. Morkel then hits one high in the air and Ben Cooper takes a good catch at deep mid-wicket.

Tom Cooper comes in. Duminy punches one on the off side and gets two runs. The batsmen then exchange a few singles in the over. The 100 comes up for South Africa.

 

 

Van Beek comes back into the attack. De Villiers comes down the track and mistimes one to Ben Cooper at deep cover. South Africa are losing the plot here. JP Duminy is the next batsman in. He gets of the mark with a single towards deep mid-wicket.

Bukhari continues. De villiers gets two runs through wide long-on. Albie Morkel just completes the second run, but the throw is not on the stumps. De Villiers then gets a single towards long-on. Morkel gets of the mark with a square-cut behind point.

 

 

Tom Cooper is into the attack. Du Plessis goes down on one knee and lofts one over cover for a six. He then swings one on the leg side. But van Beek takes the catch at deep mid-wicket.

Pieter Seelaar comes in. He is a left-arm spinner. He bowls a low full-toss and du Plessis hits it through wide long-off for a four. Du Plessis then gets two runs towards deep mid-wicket.

 

 

Mudassar Bukhari has been brought into the attack. The batsmen exchange a few singles in the over. The last ball is edged by du Plessis through the slip cordon for a four.

 

 

Logan van Beek comes into the attack. He is a right-arm medium-fast bowler. Du Plessis comes down the track and takes one on the full to hit the ball over the bowler for a four. That brings up the 50 for South Africa. Van Beek drifts one down the leg side and de Villiers flicks it away for a four through fine-leg.

 

 

Ahsan Malik replaces Swart. Dosen’t matter to Amla. He lofts one in the air and it bounces just in front of the long-off boundary and goes for a four. Amla then edges one to wicketkeeper Wesley Barresi. He is not happy with the decision, but has to go. That was a quick0fire innings from Amla.

Van der Gugten comes in. Du plessis gets of the mark with a single towards point. Amla then pulls a short delivery for a four towards deep mid-wicket. Amla has gone berserk here.

 

 

Swart tosses one up and Amla comes down the track and hits the ball over extra-cover for a six. He then hits the next ball over extra-cover for a four. The next ball is swept over short fine-leg for a four. Amla then edges one through the vacant flip region for another four. The next ball is hit over mid-off for the fourth four in-a-row. That is five boundaries in total on the trot.

 

 

 

 

 

Timm van der Gugten shares the new ball with Swart. He bowls one short and wide and Amla cuts it away for a four in front of point. He keeps strike with a single towards mid-on off the last ball in the over.

 

 

Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock walk out to bat for South Africa. Michael Swart will open the bowling for the Netherlands. He is a right-arm off-spinner. Amla gets of the mark with two runs towards mid-wicket. He then takes a single with a push on the off side. De Kock comes down the track and hits one to Stephan Myburgh at backward square-leg. He is out for a duck. Faf du Plessis is the next batsman in.

As the teams prepare to come out and play a crucial match, there is a lot of progress in the IPL 2013 spot-fixing and betting controversy in India. The Supreme Court has proposed BCCI President N Srinivasan to step down from his post. They have also proposed Sunil Gavaskar or any other experienced cricketer to take over in the interim period. The SC has also proposed Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to be banned from IPL. The SC has deferred the hearing on the IPL 2013 spot-fixing and betting controversies till April 16. The Netherlands are coming on the back of a thrashing by Sri Lanka. They were bowled out for 39 and lost the match by nine wickets. South Africa lost their first match against Sri Lanka by five runs. But managed to beat New Zealand by two runs in a close match.
