After the Albert TUTI Patriots put up 196 for 6 on the board in Match No. 26 of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2017, many might have expected a comfortable victory for them. However, it ended in a 137-run win for the Patriots as opponents Madurai Super Giant collapsed for a paltry 59. At NPR College Ground, Dindigul, Giant won the toss and elected to bowl. But the bowlers were hammered all around the park as the Patriots posted a big total which Giant failed to chase. The Patriots maintain their unbeaten tag with the seventh victory from the seventh matches they played and sit atop the table while Giant are yet to register their first victory playing equal number of matches.

After a weak start and being reduced to 48 for 3, the Patriots made a brilliant comeback as SP Nathan played a blistering knock of 33 off 77. The innings included 2 fours and 9 sixes and took the Patriots past the par score of 120 with ease. Subramanian Anand, the skipper, also added a handy 20-ball 33 and remained not out as the team put up a score beyond safe. Though Giant s M Poiyamozhi bagged a 3-for, he failed to remain economical, giving away 34 runs in his 4-over spell. Part-timer Suresh Kumar was the most economical, giving away just 7 runs in his 2 overs while bagging 2 crucial wickets. No other Giant bowler found success with the ball apart from these two.

There was nothing mentionable in the Giant s chase. Captain and opener KB Arun Karthik s 23 was the highest score by any batsman in the innings. Only three batsmen, including him, registered double-digit scores as the bowlers ran through the line-up. Ganesh Moorthi was the most successful with his 3 for 20 while Aushik Srinivas 2 for 7 was another commendable effort as the Giant s were bowled out within 8.5 overs.
