[caption id="attachment_727055" align="aligncenter" width="628"]<a href="http://www.cricketcountry.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Virat-Kohli-missed-his-half-century-by-7-runs-getty.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-727055" alt="Virat Kohli Getty Images" src="http://www.cricketcountry.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Virat-Kohli-missed-his-half-century-by-7-runs-getty.jpg" width="628" height="355" /></a> Virat Kohli Getty Images[/caption] <p></p> <p></p>Indian skipper <a href="http://www.cricketcountry.com/players/virat-kohli/">Virat Kohli</a> on Tuesday completed 3000 runs as captain becoming the fastest to the milestone in just 49 ODI innings, scoring at an average of 83. <p></p> <p></p>During the 3rd ODI between<a href="http://www.cricketcountry.com/teams/india/"> India</a> and <a href="http://www.cricketcountry.com/teams/england/">England</a>, Kohli found himself in the middle as early as the sixth over after <a href="http://www.cricketcountry.com/players/rohit-sharma/">Rohit Sharma</a> departed for just two runs and got off the mark with a boundary towards deep backward point. <p></p> <p></p>Former South African skipper <a href="http://www.cricketcountry.com/players/ab-de-villiers/">AB de Villiers</a> held the record earlier reaching the milestone in 60 innings. <a href="http://www.cricketcountry.com/players/mahendra-singh-dhoni/">MS Dhoni </a> also features in the list - now the third fastest with 70 innings - followed by <a href="http://www.cricketcountry.com/players/sourav-ganguly/">Sourav Ganguly</a> (74 innings), Graeme Smith and Misbah-ul-Haq (83 innings) and Sanath Jayasuriya and <a href="http://www.cricketcountry.com/players/ricky-ponting/">Ricky Ponting</a> (84 innings). <p></p> <p></p>[read-also]184501,726980[/read-also] <p></p> <p></p>Kohli took over the captaincy full time in 2017 and scored a century - 122 against England - in his first game in charge and has went on to register eight centuries and eight half-centuries since then. <p></p> <p></p>In the series-opener, Kohli had notched up his 39th win as captain, equalling the world record, jointly held by Clive Lloyd and Ricky Ponting for most wins after 50 ODIs as captain. He also crossed 1000+ international runs in a calendar year for the ninth consecutive year during his knock of 75 in the 1<sup>st</sup> ODI.
