Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma: Old pals to Team India mates

Team India’s skipper in Tests Virat Kohli and pacer Ishant Sharma go back a long way. Coming from the national capital of Delhi, both these cricketers have played the majority of their cricket together. Both are from same age-group (Ishant being two months elder) and that ensured both played the age-group cricket together.

As time passed, Ishant made it to the Indian team first. By the time Kohli won the Under-19 World Cup for India in 2008, Ishant was already playing for India. Kohli too made rapid progress and not just made it to the team, but also quickly went on to become a vital cog. Today, he is captaining the side in Tests while Ishant has settled as the pace spearhead in the same format. The two images here are from different time periods. The one on the left is from India’s Under-19 tour to England in the year 2006, which the visitors won 3-0. The one on the right is a recent image, captured during Team India’s preparatory camp in Bengaluru before leaving for the tour to West Indies which is currently underway. Both these players have earned laurels for the country and hopefully, their association will continue to do the same in years to come.
