West Indies vs India, 1st Test, Sabina Park, Jamaica (Jun 20-24, 2011)
Hailing from Guyana, Devendra Bishoo was once looked at as a fine leg-spinning prospect for West Indies before falling out of favour. He made a return in 2015, but again failed to seal his spot. He made his First-Class debut for Guyana in 2008, and was involved in an incident where he cut his teeth (literally). That injury hardly affected him though, as he continued to rise in his career. He claimed four five-wicket hauls and a 10-wicket haul in his first few games. He had major impact in the 2010 Caribbean T20 League, claiming 10 wickets from just four games at an economy of 5.12 and an average of 8.20. He was named Man of the Tournament as well.
He made his international debut in ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, replacing the injured Dwayne Bravo. He played his first game against England at Chennai, claiming 3 for 34. The same year he also made his T20I debut against Paksitan, claiming 4 for 17 and earning a Man of the Match award on debut as West Indies won by 7 runs. He also made his Test debut the same year against Pakistan, claiming 4 for 125.
However, the year 2012 saw a steep decline. He was dropped for most of the series against Australia, returning with figures of 1 for 169 in the only test he played against them. Following the Test series against Australia, he was sent on a tour to India with West Indies A to brush up his skills. Having won the ICC Emerging Player Award in 2011, he failed to live up to his early potential. Bishoo credits most of his success to his parents. Having lost his father at a young age, he makes it a point to take a moment to remember his father as he walks down the field.
