Dwayne Bravo Biography

Dwayne Bravo is a captain’s delight: an aggressive batsman, a wicket-taking bowler and an acrobatic fielder, numerous teams around the world want his services. Add to that you have the typical Caribbean flair and style.

Not only does he add colour to the sport with his cricketing skills and his electric presence, but he is also a flamboyant person who entertains fans with his celebrations on winning a game or taking a wicket.

Coming from Trinidad, Bravo wanted to walk in the footsteps of Brian Lara and was first picked for the West Indies in 2004. He made his Test debut that year at Lord’s and showed that he was a player for the future with a few promising performances.

Later that year, he was also a part of the West Indies side that won the ICC Champions Trophy in England. On his first tour to Australia, he hit a memorable Test ton against a bowling attack comprising Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath. However, against India in 2006, he showed his true potential with an all-round performance that won West Indies the One-Day International (ODI) series 4-1.

After the retirement of Lara, Bravo became one of the senior players in the West Indies team. He even captained them in a couple of Test matches. However, by 2010, he moved away from the Test scene and was only a feature in one-day cricket. In 2013, he was appointed the ODI captain.

Bravo is a star in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has played for Mumbai Indians in the past. He is now an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings, who retained him ahead of the 2014 season.
