There have been batsmen with unusual techniques throughout the history of cricket, but few as outrageously unorthodox as Eoin Morgan. Not only does he get away with the most astounding of strokes (who else would you back steering a ball from outside leg-stump or reverse-sweeping over a wicketkeeper’s head with full return?), but he is also one of the most successful batsmen under pressure.
Gifted with the rare ability of making a mockery of the bowler’s line and length as well as field placements irrespective of match conditions, the Dublin-born Morgan was spotted early by the Irish, and made his ODI debut for them at a mere 19, scoring 99 against Scotland.
Unfortunately for Ireland, he sought greater heights, and he was forced to make a move to England in order to gain more recognition, opportunities at the highest level, and the Holy Grail — a Test cap. He earned a contract with Middlesex, and never looked back since.
With Twenty20 leagues sprouting like mushrooms across the globe, Morgan became an instant hit, starting with a $200,000 contract with RCB in the IPL. He has played some outrageous innings, especially in T20Is (the 45-ball 85 not out against South Africa at New Wanderers and the 31-ball 71 not out against India at Edgbaston are perhaps his finest).
Unfortunately, Morgan has not really got going in the longest format despite having a decent start to his career. He ran through a lean ODI patch in 2014, but since Alastair Cook did worse, the role of the England ODI captain was thrust upon him just ahead of the 2015 ICC World Cup.
It turned out to be a disastrous campaign, but Morgan turned England's limited-overs fortunes around. Fresh blood was brought in, specialists were identified, and England adopted a fearless campaign like they had never done before.
Morgan also led England to the 2016 World T20 final, and is the highest ODI run-scorer from the British Isles.

Steyn also felt that with the Indian attack likely to miss Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, things will not be easy for them.
Ravichandran Ashwin who played his last Test against Afghanistan last month is most likely to get a chance in the playing XI.

Virat Kohli played breezy innings of 68 off 93 when India were struggling at 44 for 3.
The Indian team management took this decision during this afternoon's net practice after having a look at the pitch.
Jasprit Bumrah will be available for selection from the second Test as he is recovering from injured thumb.
England, with more balanced batting and bowling line-ups, looks more formidable than India.
The match (and the series, generally) is likely to be dominated by bat, and when that happens, quality bowling always makes a difference.
