Nagpur-born Faiz Fazal first came into the limelight when he scored 151 for Vidarbha in his Ranji Trophy debut against Jammu & Kashmir in the 2003-04 season. However, he had a contrasting debut in the one-day format as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck. A stylish left-handed opening batsman, Fazal is the man for the big occasions. He scored a century in the Deodar Trophy 2016 final for India A against India B and followed it up with yet another match-winning ton, this time for Rest of India against Ranji champions Mumbai in the Irani Cup 2016, helping his side chase down a record 480.
He made a switch to Railways between 2009 and 2012, but did not get a single game in the 2010-11 season. He however returned to Vidarbha after that. He also had a brief stint in England in 2015, where he played for Hetton Lyons Cricket Club in Durham, which is in the second tier of Engish cricket.
He has been a consistent First-Class performer since 2013, but he had his best season in the one-day format in 2015-16, scoring 465 runs at 58.12. His impressive run saw him appointed as the vice-captain of the Vidarbha team. This prompted his selection in the Indian team for the One-Day International and T20 International squad for the tour of Zimbabwe in 2016.
In the Indian Premier League he has represented Rajasthan Royals in 2010 and 2011 during which he played 12 matches for the franchise.
