New Zealand cricket has forever been a second home for Indian born cricketers, and Jeet Raval is no stranger to it. Born in Ahmedabad, Rawal continued to live their till his adolescent days. During his school days Raval had opened batting with Parthiv Patel, and has also represented Gujarat Under-15s and Under-17s, and has played with and against the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma and Piyush Chawla in age-group cricket. Raval moved to New Zealand and was soon mentored by former player Dipak Patel.
Raval soon started making up the ranks in the domestic circles playing for Auckland. Raval's watershed moment came in 2015-16, where he scored 1,016 runs at 59.76. His temperament and desire to bat for long hours made his teammates call him the Rahul Dravid of their side.
His name soon started popping up for national tours, and he was selected for New Zealand's tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa in end-2016. Raval was included in the travelling party for the tour to India that followed but did not get a Test.
His moment of joy came when he was included in New Zealand's playing XI against a visiting Pakistan later that year. Playing just his first Test, Raval showed good technique and calmness, scoring 55 and 36 not out on a seam-friendly track against a strong Pakistan attack.
