Jimmy Neesham Biography

Perhaps the most entertaining cricketer on social media sphere, Neesham plays for New Zealand across formats and remains as one of their biggest hopes as an all-rounder in time to come. Neesham’s moment of fame came against India in that Test at Wellington, when he became only the 10th New Zealand cricketer to score a century on debut. He scored 137* at No. 8, which remains the highest score for any debutant batting at that position.

When Brendon McCullum showed signs of nerves during that innings, Neesham quipped in with “gee, I didn’t think so many people would turn up to see me score a hundred;” McCullum got a triple-hundred.

Four months later he scored another Test hundred, this time at Sabina Park. And two Tests later he got 78 and 57 at Kensington Oval. After 4 Tests his aggregate stood at 448 runs at 64 — before it took a headlong plunge.

A right-arm medium fast bowler and a left-handed batsman, Neesham promises solidity to the lower-order. Unfortunately, injuries have kept plaguing him throughout his career. He was in the New Zealand squad for the 2015 World Cup, but an injury ruled him out. Undeterred, Neesham kept voicing his support for his team throughout the tournament on Twitter.

Neesham was one of New Zealand’s biggest hopes against India during their tour of 2016-17, but was kept away from action by an injury.
