Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test at Abu Dhabi
Junaid Khan first came to the limelight in international cricket when he was picked for Pakistan squad at the ICC World Cup 2011. Though he didn’t play any game there, he was one for the future given the fact that Pakistan had lost Mohammad Aamer a year earlier due to his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing controversy. Junaid didn’t exactly swing it around the corners like Aamer. But that willpower to bowl long spells, ability to use the crease and bowl from around the wicket soon made him the lynchpin of Pakistan’s pace attack.
When Junaid came through the Under 19 ranks, he had his fair share of ups and downs in terms of performance. However, selectors had immense faith in Junaid and he made his Test debut against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 2011. In his second match itself, Junaid showed his ability to bowl with pace, cut and swing when he took a five-wicket haul against Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi.
A year later against the same opposition, Junaid glistened brightly by bowling well on a flat deck at SSC. In the abridged version of the game, Junaid has time and again made a name for himself by bowling nerveless spells in the end overs. In short, he is as tough as nails during the end overs. Junaid has also plied his trade with Lancashire. Despite that, Junaid has not exactly been helped by Pakistan selectors’ revolving-door policy.
