Man Sood’s Test cap was a curious case, for he was included in the side that played the Pongal Test of 1959-60 based on University cricket with a run of 154, 16, 60, and 88. When Australia toured that season he played them twice in tour matches, scored 73 and 20, and almost immediately got a Test cap.
He struggled in his only Test. Alan Davidson did not think much of the idea of Wally Grout standing up to the stumps to someone of his pace. Davidson let loose a quick delivery, Sood missed, and Grout gave Davidson the only stumping of his career. Sood fell for a duck, and was bowled by Davidson for 3 in the second innings. That was his entire Test career.
He had an ordinary First-Class career that lasted till 1965-66, scoring 1,214 runs at 28. He got 170 against Southern Punjab in 1960-61, but that remained his only First-Class score in excess of 75.
Sood later took up administrative roles in DDCA, and served as a National Selector.
