One of the brightest talents to come from Gujarat in recent times, Manprit Juneja announced himself with a magnificent 201 not out on First-Class debut. In doing so he became only the fourth Indian to start his First-Class career with a double ton. Batting at No. 6 for Gujarat against Tamil Nadu, Juneja helped take the total to 539 in response to Tamil Nadu's 698 for 8.
He only played two matches in his debut season, but enjoyed a fantastic follow-up season, scoring 796 runs in 8 matches in 2012-13 at 66.33 with 3 centuries and 3 fifties. His form dipped somewhat after that, though he managed a superb 193 against the visiting New Zealand A in 2013-14.
Juneja can play the long innings in First-Class cricket, but is far from a one-trick pony. He hit an unbeaten 108 off 50 balls against Kerala in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, 2013, helping Gujarat reach the final where they beat Punjab. Coincidentally, Gujarat and Punjab met in the final of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy again in 2015, and Gujarat won once again — this time under Juneja.
Also an athletic fielder and part-time off-spinner, Juneja was picked up by Delhi Daredevils for IPL 2013 before being transferred to Sunrisers Hyderabad the following season. Though he has not managed to replicate his form in the early part of his career, youth is still on his side. Given his abundant talent, he can still be a long-term prospect for India.
