Marchant de Lange Biography

Bowling consistently at 140 kmph is one thing; doing the same with a 12-15 yard bowling run-up is a completely different thing altogether. Thanks to his expertise in javelin throw, de Lange can generate enormous pace with his strong arms. Add to it his tall lanky figure, and you have the perfect package of pace and bounce.

However, his international career has not flown as high as he would have expected it to be. Injuries and the seemingly infinite inventory of fast bowlers in the Rainbow nation have made his comeback difficult despite an excellent debut Test, when he routed Sri Lanka with figures of seven for 81. He later took four for 46 on ODI debut against New Zealand.

He made his First-Class debut at a young age of 19 for Easterns against Orange Free State. He then made his Test debut in December 2011 in the Test series against Sri Lanka after Vernon Philander bowed out due to injury. In the IPL, he was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012. He was also part of Mumbai Indians squad in 2014 but hardly got enough opportunities to prove his merit.
