Pakistan-born Raza moved to Zimbabwe with his parents in 2002. He started playing First-Class cricket as a semi-professional, and took up cricket as a career option only after he completed higher studies.
His domestic performances led him to the selection in the preliminary 30-man squad for World Cup 2011, but he did not make it to the final 15-member squad. However, he continued to deliver goods, and his explosive style in the shorter formats grabbed eyeballs.
He made it to Zimbabwe A trials, but was denied an opportunity due to citizenship issues. He responded with a 48-ball 93 against Matabeleland Tuskers. The citizenship issues were later sorted out.
However, he had to wait till 2013 for his ODI debut. He scored 60 and 24 on Test debut against Pakistan, but his highest point was certainly the Chittagong Test of 2014, where he had 82 and 65 alongside 4 wickets with his off-breaks.
He also scored 141 in an ODI against Afghanistan in 2014. He had a few cameos in World Cup 2015, but redeemed himself with a scintillating 84-ball 100 not out against Pakistan soon afterwards.
