Stuart Broad Biography

His boyish looks give one the impression that he is the leading man in a chick-flick; on the ground, however, few can match the combative aggression of Stuart Broad, whether he bats, bowls, or leads his side.

A broad-shouldered (no pun intended, there) clean hitter, Broad had evoked comparisons with the greatest left-handed batsmen of all time, and became a part of the formidable England lower middle-order along with Matt Prior and Graeme Swann.

There is more to him than meets the eye when it comes to Broad the bowler: often eclipsed by the variety of James Anderson, Broad nevertheless possesses the ability to run through sides — an ability that was best on display when he routed New Zealand for 68 almost single-handedly at Lord’s in 2013 with figures of seven for 44.

Broad’s has been a career of ups and downs. He found himself at the receiving end of a hammering at the hands of Yuvraj Singh, for six sixes in an over in the inaugural ICC World T20. He then came up with a violent onslaught of 169 against Pakistan, where he and Jonathan Trott added a world record 332 for the eighth wicket at Lord’s in 2010.

From the horrendous last over against Netherlands in the ICC World T20 2009 (where he single-handedly lost the match for England), to making news by not walking despite a clear nick against Ashton Agar, to becoming the first bowler ever to take Test hat-tricks against two different nations, Broad has done it all.

Now the T20I captain of England, Broad is definitely one of the candidates for the much-coveted role at the helm of the Test side.
