Sunil Narine Biography

Sunil Narine's rise to limelight has been fascinating. The world took notice of his wiles and mysterious bowling when he bamboozled batsmen at the Champions League T20 in 2011. That led to a West Indies One-Day International (ODI) call-up later that year.

When he was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders for $700,000 it had come as a surprise to many, but he went on to justify his selection. He helped the franchise win their first Indian Premier League ((IPL) title in 2012 and was named as Player of the Tournament.

Narine’s strength lies in his clever variations without any visible change in action. Though classified as an off-spinner, he can turn the ball the other way without a change in action. While Narine has tasted incredible success in limited-overs cricket, especially in T20s, he has not had the same results in Test cricket.

He had carved his name in West Indian cricket history as he helped them win the ICC World T20 2012 in Sri Lanka. He is not only economical but a genuine wicket-taker in limited-overs cricket, which has earned him stints with Sydney Sixers and Cape Cobras, as well as the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the inaugural Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

As the fast bowlers become a dying breed in West Indies cricket, Nariine can help spinners prosper in a new era.
