Vakkadai Chandrasekhar Biography

VB Chandrasekhar and Krishnamachari Srikkanth often batted together for Tamil Nadu. On some days they did not come off as a pair, but when they did, it was a sight to behold.

Chandra first came into contention following the Irani Trophy massacre of 1988-89. Tamil Nadu conceded a 207-run lead, but they kept the target to 340. Chandra raced to a 56-ball 100, then the quickest in Indian domestic cricket, and Tamil Nadu romped to victory.

Two months later he made his international debut. He played 4 ODIs against New Zealand at home and 3 more in the Rothmans Cup Triangular Series in New Zealand a season later. He got 88 runs in all, at 13 an innings and 54 every 100 balls. Of these, 53 came in a single innings, and even there he was overshadowed by Ajay Sharma.

In domestic cricket he was a stalwart, scoring 4,999 runs at 43, forming a formidable trio with Srikkanth and WV Raman at the top. He later moved to Goa.

Chandra later worked as a national selector. He was appointed coach of Tamil Nadu in 2012, but was sacked after a couple of poor shows. He also worked as the cricket manager of Chennai Super Kings.

Chandra currently runs a coaching camp in Chennai, and is a commentator in domestic matches.
