One of the fastest bowlers to have played for India, Varun Aaron sprang into prominence with 13 wickets in Ranji Trophy 2010-11. He stormed into the national team when he was picked for India’s disastrous tour of England in 2011. Though he did not get a single game, he finally made his debut in England’s return tour of India, a few months back, and played in the five- ODI series.
He claimed 3 for 24 on debut, and earned all his wickets by clean bowling the batsmen. In fact, his first five ODI wickets were all bowled — a world record.
Despite his wayward bowling, Aaron has been India’s response to the world as far as the speed gun is concerned for some time now. He clocked 149.9 kmph during Asia Cup 2014, and 150.2 kmph in IPL 2015.
Aaron has had his moments, with 3 for 106 on debut against West Indies and 3 for 97 at Old Trafford, but is still on the lookout for the elusive consistency. He clean bowled Hashim Amla with sheer pace in one of his sporadic appearances.
He led Jharkhand in the domestic season of 2015-16, where he got the rare privilege of leading MS Dhoni in domestic cricket.
