Yusuf Pathan Biography

On his day — that unfortunately comes at the frequency of Halley’s Comet — Yusuf Pathan can sledgehammer the bowlers into non-existence. A one-man weapon of mass-destruction, Yusuf can win matches on his own with his agricultural strokeplay that are often executed with the violence of a butcher.

Yusuf was thrust into international cricket in the high-pressure World T20 final. He smacked a six in the very first over to show his big hitting abilities. It came at the back of some impressive performances in India’s first domestic T20 tournament in 2007. Two months later he bludgeoned his way to a 223-ball 183 against Bengal.

Yusuf has been in and out of the ODI squad since his debut in 2008. There have been a few performances brutal enough to line on the borders of absurdity, but consistency has been his drawback. These knocks were enough to earn him a place in India’s 2011 World Cup squad, but after a few failures, he was dropped midway through the tournament in favour of Suresh Raina.

It was at the Indian Premier League (IPL) that Yusuf made a name for himself with some excellent performances for the Rajasthan Royals. He was a vital cog in their victory in the maiden season and then smashed a 37-ball ton against Mumbai Indians in 2010. He was later acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders.
