India vs Australia 2017-18

As Team India begin a fresh home international season, their opening campaign of this fresh season starts with reigning world champion Australia, touring India for a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series, followed by a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series. This would be Australia's second tour of India in 2017 after the team visited India back in February for a four-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which was won by India 2-1. India would aim to continue with the same winning momentum against the Aussies, and also continue their dominant run at home. As for Australia, they would certainly aim to avenge their Test defeat with a win in either of the formats, or both.

The tour begins with the five ODIs, starting on September 17 in Chennai, followed by the second ODI on September 21 in Bengaluru, while the third ODI is on September 24 at Nagpur. The final two ODIs are on September 28 and October 2 at Indore and Kolkata, respectively. The ODIs would then be followed by the T20Is, with the opening game on October 7 at Hyderabad, followed by the second T20I on October 10 at Ranchi, while the final T20I is played on October 13 in Guwahati.

Australia's last tour of India for a limited-overs series was back in October 2013, where they lost the series to India 2-3. India's Rohit Sharma was the highest run-scorer of the series, scoring massive 491 runs in six matches at an average of 123, including his best score of 209. For Australia, it was George Bailey, who scored 478 runs from six matches at an average of 96, including his best score of 156. In bowling, it was India's Ravichandran Ashwin, the off-spinner, who finished as the highest wicket-taker, claiming nine wickets from six matches, at an economy of six, while his best spell was 2 for 21. As for Australia, it was fast-bowler Mitchell Johnson, who finished as the fifth highest wicket-taker in the series, claiming seven wickets from five matches at an economy of six, while his best spell was 4 for 46.

However, India's last ODI series against Australia was back in Januray 2016, where India lost the five-match series 1-4 in Australia. Among the highest run-scorers, it was India's Rohit Sharma again, who continued his dominant run against the Aussies, scoring 441 runs in five matches at an average of 110, while his best score was an unbeaten 171. As for Australia, it was Steven Smith, who scored 315 runs from the five matches at an average of 63, while his highest score was 149. In the bowling, it was Australia's John Hastings, who finished as the highest wicket-taker, claiming 10 wickets in four matches at an economy of 6, while his best spell was 4 for 58. For India, it was Ishant Sharma, who claimed nine wickets from four matches at an economy of six, while his best spell was 4 for 77.

This would also be the first time Virat Kohli would be leading the Indian side in the limited-overs format. Smith, who leads Australia, is already under pressure following their poor run in the Test series against India in February and would also aim to rectify the errors made following their group stage exit in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Australia clearly are hungry hunters for now and would stop at nothing to salvage the lost pride. As for India, they are on a roll and will roar hard at the Aussies, setting up an epic clash between the two.
