Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 2017

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka who are coming with losses in the recently concluded series against India and South Africa are all set to start afresh in the tour beginning on March 2. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will play 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 2 T20Is for a month. Bangladesh will begin with two-day practice match at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa which will be followed by 2 Tests with the first one beginning on March 7 at Galle International Stadium in Galle. The second Test will be at P Sara Oval at Colombo which will begin on March 15. Both teams are sailing in the same boat as Sri Lanka lost the Test series against South Africa away by 4-0. Bangladesh lost the Tests against New Zealand in New Zealand by 2-0.

Both teams found no luck in the ODI series as well as South Africa clean swept Sri Lanka by 5-0 while Bangladesh were also brownwashed by 3-0. The ODIs will be played at Dambulla and Colombo from March 25 to April 1. As for the shortest format, Sri Lanka found some luck against South Africa claiming the T20Is by 2-1 while Bangladesh were unfortunate in this format as well. Sri Lanka will once again miss the services of their captain and all-rounder Angelo Mathews who is recovering from his injury. So veteran Rangana Herath will once again lead the squad while Mushfiqur Rahim will head Bangladesh.

Bangladesh will be facing a side that has no big names like Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan. Now even Mathews is makes it to the list. With Bangladesh playing their third consecutive Test series in the span of three months will keep them in sync. Bangladesh will also heavily rely on their talented bowlers like Shakib Al Hasan, Mehedi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman with the subcontinent factor working in their advantage. However, Bangladesh will have to be wary of a certain Herath who has claimed 25 wickets in six Tests against Bangladesh.

As per the head-to-head records, Sri Lanka reigns against Bangladesh in Tests, be it away or home. They have played 7 bilateral Test series, none that worked in favour of Bangladesh. However, playing after span of 4 years with revamped sides will be the catch here. Looking at ODI records, it is Sri Lanka all the way with one series draw. Similar story follows in the shortest format.

Bangladesh have a point to prove through this tour. Will Sri Lanka be a tough cookie to crack or will Bangladesh create history, is something that one has to wait and see.
