India vs South Africa 2017-18

India will commence a full tour of South Africa from January 5, 2018. The teams will play 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20Is. The first Test of the 'Freedom Trophy' will be played a Cape Town while the second and third Tests will be played at Centurion and Johannesburg respectively. The ODI series will begin on February 1 at Durban. Centurion, Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Port Elizabeth are the other venues for the limited-overs leg.

India tour South Africa as the No.1 ranked Test side. South Africa hold the second spot. The tides reverse in ODIs where the hosts are No.1 and India a spot below. The tour is billed as one of the most important ones of the year. The last time India toured South Africa was in 2013-14. India lost the Test and ODI series. However, when South Africa toured India in 2015-16, they lost the Test series 3-0 but pocketed the ODIs and T20Is 3-2 and 2-0 respectively.

Virat Kohli will be captaining India for the first time in South Africa while South Africa see the return of AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn to their side.

This is India's seventh tour of South Africa starting 1992-93 and they are yet to register a series win there. In 2010-11, India the then No.1 side managed to draw level. Of the 17 Tests played between the 2 sides in South Africa, India have won 2 while the hosts have notched 8 wins.

In India-South Africa contests in the Rainbow nation, Tendulkar leads the run charts with 1,161 runs from 15 Tests at 46.44. As far as bowling is concerned, the list is led by Anil Kumble, who has 45 wickets from 12 Tests in South Africa at 31.79.
