India vs New Zealand 2016

The Indian cricket team will begin their big home season which consists of 13 Tests, 8 ODIs and 3 T20Is in late September, taking on the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand. The three-Test series will mark the beginning of what has been named ‘India Cricket’ season by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Test series will be followed by a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series, scheduled to be played from October 16-29, 2016. The three-Test series is all set to be played from September 22-26 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, followed by the second Test from September 30 to October 4 at the historic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, while the third and final Test will be held from October 8-12 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. There are several new venues where India will be playing Test cricket this season, and the first of them is Indore.

Following the end of the Test series, India will immediately switch to the limited-overs format, as they start the five-match ODI series with the opening ODI on October 16 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (HPCA) in Dharamsala, followed by the second ODI on October 19 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. The third ODI will be held on October 23 at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali. The fourth ODI will be on October 26 at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) Stadium in Ranchi, while the fifth and final ODI will be held at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Nagpur.

Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla is all set to host the opening warm-up fixture of New Zealand’s tour of India when the visitors take on Board President’s XI from September 16-18. It must be remembered that the Indian cricket board was intending to organise one of the three Tests between India and New Zealand under lights, with the pink cricket ball. But the board had a change in mood, and dropped the idea. Had the first-ever day-night Test would have taken place, Eden Gardens in Kolkata was in all readiness to organise it as Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), had left no stone unturned to make it a reality.

The Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) in the country’s capital will host the warm-up game for the Kiwis since it is also closer to the venue of the first Test, which will be held in Kanpur from September 22-26. “It is logistically viable that New Zealand team remains in Delhi for the better part and therefore plays the warm-up game at the Feroz Shah Kotla. It will be a newly laid strip and the monsoon season by that time would have come to an end,” a source close to the Indian cricket board said some time ago.

The BCCI announced the schedule and tour itinerary for New Zealand’s trip to India in September-October 2016. The Indian cricket team has a busy schedule ahead with 17 Tests lined up till March 2017, a period in which they will also be playing in total 8 ODIs and 3 T20I matches. After the end of the series against New Zealand, India will be taking on England in a five-Test series, which will be followed by 3 ODIs and as many T20Is. India will then face Bangladesh in a one-off Test at Hyderabad, and the ‘India Cricket’ season will end with a four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2016-17 against Australia.
